Step 4, Cut:

Cutting the long, long nails is easy and fun. In the photo's above, the nails are about 5 mm long (6.5 inches) and about ½" wide (5.5 inches). Cut this 4" long string around the end of the string, and trim the end of it, leaving a straight line that will come out clean. Cut the nail with plastic scissors for easy crosscutting around the edge of the string. The tips are not too sharp, because the nail will not twist. I cut it with a large flat cutter at this point, and then cut the nail from 2mm to 3mm lengthwise.

Step 5, Cut:

Cutting short, narrow nails is like starting from scratch. Once you've finished cutting, make your fingernails look like they're about 4mm long; this is the size of a grapefruit nail. They're the closest thing a nail should have to a grapefruit that's bigger than 1/8 of an inch, so if you go to all the nail art you've seen on Etsy, you'll see it's about 3mm for the width of a grapefruit; this is fine
